The breeze was soft and cool, the air itself comfortably warm and the sky a peaceful light blue. Any noise disturbing the peace felt far off; even if it was right beside you, you wouldn't notice any different. A lone bird flew over head.
That was the dream of every Storm Rider - to fly, to reach the top! That is why we ride these roads, dangerous or not, if you want to reach the top, to fly into the sky, this is the only way
or so they say.
Hisako snapped out of her dream-like state, sitting upright in an instant as she quickly looked to her right and then to her left as a basketball narrowly avoided her.
"Sorry..!" yelled the child chasing it.
She just smiled; it was her own fault for sitting at the stands anyway. She stood up and walked off, enjoying the gentle breeze blowing through her hair although if it moved her hat she would not have been best pleased. Her bright blue eyes shown out from under her deep magenta locks; which bounced gently as she walked, small strands flicking out each side and her fringe gently waved back and forth it took a lot to get her hair to sit like that as it had its own natural wave, often giving it more bounce than straight. She was dressed mostly in her usual today; she had her magenta rimmed black hat, her black short-shorts and her ankle boots, but instead of her usual magenta rimmed black jacket, over her reddened vest top, she had a somewhat baggy off-white jumper that was hanging just off of her shoulders other than that all that was missing was her AT's these were slung over her shoulder, laces tied together so one hung at her front, the other at her back. She never left home without them; because if she did she wouldn't have them to go back to her parents would make sure of that and her AT's were special, customised piece by piece as she could get her hands on them, she wouldn't have all that wasted just by forgetting to lift them. Maybe she'd go practice a little, it often made a good day into a great day when she could feel herself speeding through the breeze and riding on the sound created by her road. She stopped at the nearest bench and sat down, putting on her AT's and strapping them tight, she kept a relaxed smile the entire time, then standing she surveyed the area. She gave a quick test to ensure they were correctly adjusted with a quick skate up the length of the nearby alleyway and back to the bench. Pleased with her speed and comfort she leapt her way onto the nearest metal fence and started to grind. She often felt like a show off in this area when all the little kids would run up and watch her in awe; it really seemed to surprise them that there was a rider in this area, although she didn't know why since Storm Riders were so common nowadays. She also got a kick out of skating around this area because it pissed her parents off to no end due to their disapproval of Storm Riders and "wasting your time with these ridiculous notions towards the sky". They would never understand, and that was fine with her. She focused solely on the feeling of the road that carried her and bending more to gather further speed and increase precision, she carefully gave a quick spin so that she was now grinding backwards, watching over her shoulder as kids watched her, smiling, having stopped what they were doing, toys in their hands. She went around it another twice before leaping off and grinding along roofs edges in the surrounding square causing damage to some of the less secure roof tiles of these houses and landing on her feet, instantly coming to a grinding halt. Some children clapped, some said 'wow' and others just smiled at her. She smiled friendly back, then she heard the irate voice of her father; "Hisako!!"
"Bite me!" she yelled as she commonly did, smirking and applying pressure with the front of her foot she shot off in the opposite direction, her father calling after her meant naught to her
She stopped near school, knowing it was almost lunchtime so she kept hidden as best she could behind whatever was closest to her. Some of the best places to skate were at or around this school, but she had skipped actually going to school yet again, so had to be very cautious. Maybe if she was quick shed get enough time to grind the roof. She hurried along a little further before hopping the fence and leaping across, hoping/grinding up whatever she could until she eventually reached the top. Upon reaching the top however, she had to be careful to keep her balance on the fencing surrounding the roof. She was that high now that there was no shelter from the gentle push of the wind and so she had to lean towards it to avoid a fall. It wasn't long until lunch so this practice would have to be a short one. She crouched down more, leaning forward that little bit and started an easy skate across the top of the fence until she felt enough speed and moved her feet slightly so the wheels locked the way they were meant to and she started to grind yet again.
Grinding was her favourite trick in all honesty, and perhaps the one she practised most; feeling she needed to in order to excel at any kind of riding. But she would never call the additional practice a waste of time; she enjoyed what she did.
She kept going around the roof several times, trying new spins and turns, getting lost in her ride until suddenly the bell rang. She gave a sharp jolt and fell from the rail, landing on one knee on the roof. She quickly looked up as she heard voices of people heading straight to the roof. Pushing herself up Hisako hurriedly leapt back up and grinded her way up the fence, pulling herself onto the rail; hurrying to balance herself despite the small pain in her knee, and chose her route. She heard the door opening behind her and looking over her shoulder saw a group of boys ascend onto the roof as she leapt off, reaching the nearby telephone wires and grinding along them. The boys that had seen her had watched curiously as she hurried off, curious to have found a Storm Rider alone on the school roof, furthermore, on their territory
Hisako sighed as she slowly skated through the now dark streets, legs together and just letting her AT's take her. It had been a long day and she had now grown quite bored, and even more reluctant to go home. She was somewhat sick of this place
but it couldn't be helped. She had nowhere else to go and had no chance of surviving on her own at current damn money, always being a problem. It didn't help she stayed in such an uptight area that Storm Riders did not tread knowing only too well that the occupants would call the police at any sign of them it allowed her father to call her the embarrassment of the family, breaking their rules about AT's and so on; not that she cared she just wished her parents hadn't cut her off money wise, she could've moved out by now if they had ignored it for just a while longer. Oh well. It didn't matter. She gave a yawn and a stretch and head reluctantly for home, none the wiser that someone had been watching her.
The next morning Hisako woke as usual; hugging her AT's out of fear of losing them. She rubbed her eyes gently with the back of her hand before sitting up, stretching, and then hurrying to get ready this time, in her usual attire but instead of wearing her jacket she had it tied around her waist. She snuck quietly across the hall, AT's in hand, and into her little brothers room; giving him a gentle kiss on the forehead and then, to avoid yet another confrontation with her parents, quietly strapped on her AT's and leapt out his window, landing on her feet and immediately skating off. She had team practice today and having been working on her grinding for so long she actually had no idea what they'd be getting her to work on next; she'd already accomplished speed, and taken it upon herself to train with using both skills together. She reached the usual park where they met to train to find she was the only one there she assumed she was early so decided she'd just start without them and raced in lengths from A to B, recording how much her speed improved each time in order to carefully monitor her improvement and focus more on how to up her speed yet again without causing herself any harm or troubles. She was making great time as she shot along the last length when she quickly skid to a halt upon nearly running into to someone who had been going by at the wrong time. She stopped directly in front of them; having crouched so far down and skidded so bad that she fell gently onto her ass.
"Sorry." she said, looking up at them to find they had already turned their back on her. They stood there for a moment and then walked off; leaving her simply to watch them leave. She blinked several times out of curiosity and wondered what their problem was. The blue haired individual disappeared around a corner and she got to her feet once more.
weird." she checked her AT's real quick to see how much damage she had done and fixed her laces. Anytime she practiced like this they seemed to come loose, and at risk of catching in the wheels. If she didn't start being more careful her lace would be sure to either trip her or catch fire when she caught speed a disaster best avoided. She hadn't quite realised yet that she was out of their training zone and actually in the middle of the pedestrian path, and upon finishing re-tying her laces, looked up only upon hearing a call of;
Hisako got a small shock from the surprise as a boy with a white hat skidded to a stop directly beside her; the toe of his AT's just lightly tapping her thigh. Both let out a sigh of relief as she got to her feet.
"Sorry. For a moment there I forgot I was in the way."
"No, I'm sorry. I should've been watching where I was going." the boy said, rubbing the back of his head slightly then fixing his white beanie before looking over his shoulder at the other four boys who were skating up behind him.
Hisako also looked at the rest as they approached, they looked like a team.
"Hey, Agito, I though you'd just said it was safe to skate fast here..!" the blonde called over his shoulder at someone.
"Hm." they responded, a small flash of blue beside a much larger guy with darker skin, wearing a pink and white striped tee, and hidden behind another boy a slightly fat one. The tallest of the boys, who had spiky black hair, made his way up next to the blonde wearing the hat in front of her.
She turned her attention to the tall boy who was now in front of her, leaning down on the blonde's shoulder despite the look of distain the blonde gave.
"Hi there, sorry my friend here nearly knocked you over," he noticed her AT's, "Sweet. You're a rider too?"
"Mm hm" she gave a small nod, still watching the boy although her attention was being slightly drawn to the 'rounder' boy creeping closer and closer on the blondes other side; as the blonde himself pushed the black haired boys arm off of his shoulder and moved a little to the side kind of leering at him.
"That's cool. Then what are you doing out here on your own?" he continued.
"I'm waiting for my team to arrive." she responded, "Is this your team?"
"Yea, we-" he got cut off by the sound of a woman's voice calling "Little crow~" and his attention was immediately drawn in another direction. There was a small pause where he just smiled. "I have to go. It was nice meeting you!" he hurried off.
"Well anyway, sorry again." the blonde smiled at her before pushing his other rounder friend away and they followed their team leader.
"Well that was
" she said to herself, dusting off once more then skating back into her own territory, wondering where the rest of her team was
